( CHARACTER INFORMATION )

Name/Work Name: Beatrice/Bea
Canon: Over the Garden Wall
Canon Point: Pre-series after she’s been turned into a bluebird, before she makes a deal with the witch Adelaide.
AU/CRAU: Canon
Age: About 16
History:
If she had just been a little less impulsive-- had a little more self control-- she might not have cursed herself and her entire family to spend the rest of their days as bluebirds. But the deed was done, the rock was thrown, and her family was cursed. Instead of admitting that it was her fault for the incident, she fled home-- too ashamed to face her family.

She was desperate and would do just about anything to right her wrongs. She soon met a witch named Adelaide, who said that she had the power to return Beatrice and her family back to their human forms. It was a pair of golden scissors that would snip off their bird’s wings. All the bluebird needed to do was fetch a human servant for the good woman of the woods and the curse would be broken. Easy enough.

It didn’t take long to find two lost souls with no purpose in life. Their names were Wirt and Greg and all she needed to do was get them to Adelaide. However, over the course of their travels she grew closer and closer to them. When they were about to arrive at the witch’s house, Beatrice found that she could no longer deceive them. In the middle of the night, she flew ahead to tried and convince Adelaide to take her as a servant instead. The boys had caught up with her though, caught in the trap that Beatrice had inadvertently led them to. The only thing she could do was kill the witch before she could hurt Wirt and Greg, but it was too late. She had already betrayed their trust, and the boys fled into the night.

Even so she still did what she could to keep them safe, always lingering in their shadows. She even broke her vow and returned to her family with Wirt in tow when he was injured. Because of this, the boy forgave her and returned the scissors that would restore her family to human form. Once Wirt and Greg were safe, Beatrice finally returned home to her family. She admitted her wrongdoings and expected them to hate her, but they were just worried about where she had gone.

She restored them all to human form and they lived happily ever after. Life really is as sweet as potatoes and molasses.

Personality:
What kind of girl throws a rock at a bluebird? What kind of girl taunts someone with their own mortality and then laughs in their face?

Beatrice is a very brash and headstrong girl who is not afraid to speak her mind. In fact, it’s very difficult for her to hold back anything that passes through her head. This isn’t limited to words-- she’s just as impulsive with her actions, especially in cases of anger and aggression. As such, she’s also very impatient when things aren’t going exactly as she wants them to. And if they aren’t going way too far off course she’s inclined to just exit the situation and save herself the trouble in the future. She’s still a rather immature girl in terms of her control over her own emotions and how she deals with those emotions.

In spite of all this Beatrice is a very caring girl when she gets close to others. Being an emotionally constipated person makes this is rather difficult. She shies away from affection and that sort of junk, but when she softens up to someone she’ll do just about anything for them. Even if that means kidnapping two kids or pledging your eternal servitude to a witch.

That being said Beatrice has a very guilty conscience. If she knows she’s doing something really wrong she’ll run away from the people she’s hurt in order to fix what she’s done out of their sight. She has a hard time facing others after wronging them. Even if she’s fixed things she still worries that the people around her hate her because if she can’t forgive herself then how can the people she’s hurt directly truly forgive her?

Beatrice is sarcastic most of the time, though there’s an air of truth to everything she says. When it boils down to it, I think she’s a good kid. She’s just got a thing or two to learn, as all kids do.
Debt:
”All I know is that I’m never going back until I make them human again. I’d do pretty much anything”.

In canon Beatrice has already made a deal with a witch for the sake of her family. I want to take her from the canon point before that happens so she can make a deal with this witch instead. In exchange for her servitude she wants her family to be human again, even if that means she can’t return to them. When she became close to Wirt and Greg in the show, she offered herself as a servant instead so it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume that she would do this.

Inventory:
A small sewing kit
Two pennies

Abilities:
About all she’s got going in terms of abilities though is that she’s a bird. Therefore she’s capable of flight, but incapable of digesting bread and controlling her bowel movements

If nothing else Beatrice has a great throwing arm.

Strengths and Weaknesses:
+Compassionate
+Quick-thinking
+Willing to go to great lengths for the people she cares about
+Loyal
+Adaptable
-Sardonic
-Quick-tempered
-Bossy
-Rude/blunt
-Brash/impulsive
